Easter: a
festival of Christians which is held between 21 March and 25 April on the first
Sunday. Easter day has been called a moveable feast because like other holidays
it doesn't fall on a fixed or set date every year.
In the 20th century, some individuals have tried to fix a date for Easter but
proposals to reform the date have not been implemented. Many
Christians worldwide celebrate Easter with special church services, music,
candlelight, flowers and the ringing of church bells. Many Christians view
Easter as the greatest feast of the Church year. Easter season begins on Easter
Sunday and lasts for seven weeks, ending on the 50th day which would also be a
Sunday. A period of fasting, penitence, and Spiritual discipline known as Lent
in thepreparationfor Easter is a 40 day period. In 2016, Easter will fall on March 27.
